Awakening to Reiki's 5 Precepts: How These Core Values Embody 5D Living

In our chaotic world, where stress, frustration, and fear are the norm, many of us yearn for deeper meaning, miraculous support, and an authentic connection to our spiritual nature to gather some relief and make some sense of life. I experienced this longing for something 'more' before I studied Reiki. I had already experienced other spiritual teachings on healing and energy work, but I was far from done in my quest for something 'greater'. Reiki is one of those energy healing practices that are evergreen. It is gentle, intuitive and flowing - a soothing frequency that supports healing in many ways. This ancient practice of Reiki, rooted in healing and Divine connection, also offers insightful guidance through its five essential precepts. These principles serve as a simple yet powerful reminder to elevate our consciousness towards a 5D existence of peace, oneness, gratitude, joy, empathy, and higher consciousness. Let's take a look at these precepts.


The 5 Precepts of Reiki: Living with Greater Intention and Mindfulness


Just for today, I will not be angry.

Just for today, I will not worry.

Just for today, I will be grateful.

Just for today, I will do my work honestly.

Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing.



The Journey with Reiki

I explored Reiki not only as a healing practice but also to increase the connection with my inner guidance. After going through the Practitioner and Mastership levels, I felt a marked lightness, a spiritual shift to something more infinite, cosmic and Divine. I loved this easy way to enhance well-being and was drawn to share this modality, which I started teaching soon after and continue to do so. Part of the course I teach delves into these five precepts, which help us become more self-aware and understand the cause and effect of our actions and perceptions. I enjoy quizzing my students on the meanings and applications of these precepts, which many seem to struggle with.


Just for Today, I Will Not Be Angry

This precept invites us to let go of controlling behaviour - where we expect things to go our way. We sometimes forget to respect the sovereignty and journey of others. Of course, being human, we do get angry about what we perceive to be right or wrong, etc. - but perhaps we can rise above judgment, and instead, see the lesson and love in the issue, which can bring about higher solutions, resolutions and realign us to the Divine flow of abundance and harmony. When we understand that we have the power to choose a positive outcome, regardless of what is currently in front of us, we can start to change our experience with the outer world into a 5D one. When we release anger to embrace peace and choose a better outcome, our elevated focus can become a reality. Plus, anger is a destructive emotional energy to hold within your physical body, which can create health issues. It is said that the seat of anger is stored in the liver. So, choose kindness and compassion over impatience, expectations and entitlement, and more harmonious instances will appear. Hold the core of Divine love, see everything with the eyes of love.

Just for Today, I Will Not Worry

When we worry, we do not trust the future. We don't feel it will turn out in our favour. We don't feel safe or in control of our lives. Such frequent exasperations about the future can cripple us. It has taken me decades to overcome fears, many of which were unfounded, and many have sorted themselves out somehow. Often, our minds concoct horror stories of impending disasters, and we make the most important life choices based on fear. Looking back, I had to choose to be at peace with my choices and not fall into the darkness of regret, which at that time seemed sound, as I wanted to feel 'safe'. It was a real mental workout to stay strong and have faith that the universe was there to support me whenever I felt the urge to pull out of passionate goals that I felt were 'risky' or uncomfortable. But, eventually, I learned to stop struggling and to live in the present, becoming comfortable with life unfolding in its own perfect timing and to know that I could handle whatever the universe presented to me to experience or overcome. By living in the now, I choose to enjoy myself, follow my intuitive callings and most importantly have a good sense of humour! Laugh! See the world as a stage, and lift yourself from being too serious about life in general. Humans are nutty, funny and ridiculous, seriously....really! In a 5D world, life is easy, safe, free and bountiful. We need to allow the possibility that, so long as your desires are Divinely aligned, sincere and unwavering, the universe will manifest them for you. Live and breathe your desired reality, and it will come to life around you in the best way.


Just for Today, I Will Be Grateful

Gratitude is by far the most expansive, healing and transformative core feeling to hold. It is what makes the world bloom with beauty, happiness and abundance. This extremely high vibration can change your life in miraculous ways. A gratitude journal is an excellent way to start anchoring this attitude and see how joy manifests. The act of simple appreciation can, over time, create a more positive mindset and open your heart to seeing the goodness that exists - all of which can build better relationships with people. Your continuous focus on being thankful for the good and the bad (yes, bad too!) seems to initiate a healing effect and neutralise challenges and blocks in life. I have seen it in my own life and others' where, when we shift our focus to being okay with a current situation and start to channel gratitude and love towards that issue, the problem dissolves in the best ways, your body lightens, and blessings arrive! Often, challenges arise when we need to understand something about ourselves, and this process prepares us to lift ourselves up into higher consciousness and thus, 5D living. As they say, stay in gratitude, and life will present you with more things to be grateful for. It works, try it!


Just for Today, I Will Do My Work Honestly

Why do we bother to do our work honestly? What's our motivation? The common answer is that we can sleep better at night. Our conscience keeps many people awake. Of course, in the energetic sense, it is good karma, and by what I am seeing in the world right now, do something 'bad' or out of integrity, and you will see karma boomerang back to hit you in the behind. In fact, with the rapid ascension of Mother Earth and our journey into 5D, all darkness, hidden or unhealed issues, and negativities are being forced into the light to be transformed, healed, or resolved. Resistance to addressing any trauma or blocks makes the process harder to cope with. So, now is the time to let go and let God, as they say, and be brave enough to work through any issues you may have withheld internally. We are moving towards a world that is Soul-led, a Divine-aligned world, so anything that is out of this alignment will be rapidly addressed, as long as we continue to choose to be in this ascending reality. Our feelings or intuition on doing the right thing, or being honest, comes from our soul compass that is connected directly to Divine Source. That's why we just innately know what is right or wrong without needing our human logic to tell us so. Practice listening to your intuition or gut instinct, as this powerful sixth sense will keep you safe and offer the most loving and Divinely-aligned solutions. Follow the guidance of your heart.


Just for Today, I Will Be Kind to Every Living Thing

Kindness spreads like ripples on a pond. It often serves as a diffuser for confrontations, as it is usually accompanied by patience, respect and empathy. When I make a conscious effort to be kinder, both to myself and others, my worldview widens as I shift my perspective to the bigger picture of life. How do I want to be treated by others? That's a good measure. In the 5D world, we are more conscious of our connection with each other. The simple acts such as giving a compliment, helping a neighbour, or being a good listener can create a positive effect in relationships and overall well-being. We need to instil the core value of kindness in our society if we want to live in a community that supports our health and happiness. It is an indicator of spiritual maturity and connection to our Soul self. As we elevate others with love and compassion, we too benefit in kind, pun intended.


How You Can Embody the 5 Precepts


If you are ready to embark on your journey toward 5D living, here are practical steps to help you embrace the 5 precepts of Reiki:


  1. Practice Mindfulness: Set aside a few minutes each day for meditation or mindful breathing. This practice increases your awareness of thoughts and emotions, leading to greater grounding. Make sure you continue to cultivate self-awareness throughout your day, noticing how you act and what triggers you. As you learn more about your conscious and subconscious behaviour, you can then heal those aspects that are holding you back and negatively impacting your life.


  2. Practice Gratitude: Start a gratitude journal. Write down three things you're thankful for daily to foster a mindset of abundance and open yourself up to inspiration and solutions to any blocks in life. Internally give thanks for everything!


  3. Align with Your Core Values: Take time to explore what truly matters to you. Ensure your choices and actions align with those core values for a more fulfilling life. Your core values will keep you in the flow of Divine abundance. You will also magnetically attract other 5D personalities into your life by embodying these Divine core principles. Listen intently to your intuition.


  4. Cultivate Kindness: Intentionally practice frequent acts of kindness. Kindness fosters sincere and loving connections with others. As time goes by, you will notice positive changes in your life, and you will unwittingly build a community that is also steeped in kindness and oneness.


  5. Seek Guidance: If you are feeling lost or unsure, consider working with a spiritual coach or joining a spiritual modality that resonates with you. Explore your soul’s essence and intuitively align with these transformative principles. On your spiritual journey, ensure that the courses, coaches, and tools you utilise are grounded in the Divine core values, such as love and respect for your sovereignty. If at any time you feel uncomfortable with an approach or modality, stop and find something else that is more Divine-aligned.

Embracing Transformation

In all these five precepts, it always starts with 'Just for today...' Why is that? It means that we can only live in the moment. The 'now' is where we create our future experience and experience our past manifestation. The present is our creative space - and it is super-powerful. Do not waste time engaging in the present by worrying about the future or living in the past. Use your experiences and wisdom to make the changes today and in every moment to manifest the future you want. Live and breathe your future self....your 5D self!
